Understanding organizations by listening to the people who know them best.

When you understand your organization deeply, you can drive your mission with focus and clarity.

We listen to the people closest to your work— staff, clients, community—so you have the insight to move forward with clarity, focus, and intention.

VOICES starts with curiosity and then we listen.

We leave assumptions at the door and hear how those closest to the work experience your organization.

HOW IT WORKS

01
Thoughtful
Conversations

People aren't interviewed. They're invited into thoughtful conversations that create space for reflection, honesty, and connection.

02
Environmental
Portraits

These aren't headshots. They're environmental portraits that place people where their work happens and their stories unfold.

03
Qualitative
Inquiry

Looking across many conversations, qualitative analysis reveals the patterns, values, relationships, and insights that no single story could tell on its own.

Then we make sense of what we’ve learned—helping leaders use those insights to strengthen culture, navigate change, inform strategy, and make more thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

IN THEIR WORDS

“Our staff really connected with the notion of acknowledging their peers in this nontraditional and innovative way, as they clearly saw themselves and their own work in their team members’ profiles.”

—A. Long, Deputy Director

CASE STUDY

Recognizing public workers

In search of uncovering what motivates Austin Parks and Recreation staff every day, VOICES held conversations and photographed front-line employees at their daily worksites – at pools, in parks, on golf courses, in a cemetery, at a recreation center, and up in the tree canopy. Each person stepped away from their busy day and took a few minutes to share what this work means to them.

The quotes from staff touch on a range of topics including what it means to keep facilities safe, teach lifelong skills, care for natural spaces, create community connections, and welcome people from every background. These stories reflect everyday moments that shape the city’s parks – from teaching a tai chi class, to supporting an adapted sports team, to helping a child feel they belong.
